University Of Utah Football Players Death A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of Utah football player Aaron Lowe, Salt Lake City police announced Sunday. The shooting that killed Aaron Lowe occurred just after midnight, only hours after the Utes beat Washington State 24-13, and less than a year after a teammate of Lowe's died in an accidental shooting. The victims include a woman, who is currently in critical condition, and Utah football player Aaron Lowe, who died at the scene. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Lowe and a second victim, a woman, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, police said.

With the community still mourning from the loss of Jordan, another tragedy has taken the life of Lowe. The Utah football team has done a fantastic job of remembering and honoring Jordan, and thankfully Lowe should receive that as well. Salt Lake City Police are currently investigating a deadly shooting that took place on the 2200-block of South Broadmoor Street early Sunday morning. The shooting left one person dead on the scene, with another transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Lowe was a Texas high school teammate of Ty Jordan, the Utah running back who was shot and killed in December. The Cougars were impacted by gun violence this weekend, too, as WR Brandon Gray was shot at a house party early Saturday morning. Aaron Lowe is the second Utah football player from North Texas to die in a shooting in the last year. In December, Ty Jordan, a freshman running back who was best friends with Lowe, died in an accidental shooting in Denton on Christmas Day. Lowe was a defensive back who played 11 games on special teams as a freshman in 2019.

Last season saw Lowe playing in five games, also on special teams. Lowe appeared in each of Utah's first four games of the current season. Now both friends and teammates will live on through memorial scholarships in their name and the school will retire No. 22.
